When we are mindful, we are in the present moment – not thinking about the past, nor projecting into the future. From this place of presence, we truly experience life as it is unfolding, without stories, preconceived ideas or expectations. The more present we become, the more our life literally unfolds and flows from the heart.

Mindfulness Meditation is an incredible tool to help connect us to our inner world and truth. When we are present, we are fully in our bodies and it is then that we can feel emotions as they occur. While to feel is to be human, it is also a human nature to try and avoid the discomfort of our more painful feelings. In order to do this, we leave the present moment and distract ourselves in any number of ways, including keeping busy, changing our breathing, sedating behaviours such as drinking or drugs, to name but a few.

While we ignore our feelings we are able to carry on and seemingly function quite well in life. However, by ignoring our feelings we also ignore our internal messages that are telling us when we need to course correct, or make adjustments in our life. If we continue to ignore these messages it eventually leads us to dysfunction, dissatisfaction and sometimes illness. Mindfulness can help us to get back on track.

By practicing Mindfulness we are able to become more aware of our thoughts and behaviours that distract us from our true path and our hearts desires. Through awareness we create the opportunity for choice and change. We also create space for ourselves to just ‘be’ – to experience stillness and calm from our hectic lives. In this place of calm we are safe and we are home – inspiration and solutions often appear.
